Associations / Clubs

An overview of the student clubs in Enschede who provide their lessons/material in English too. You can join most of these clubs when you have the Xtra-card and pay a (small) membership fee. Click on the name of the club to go to their English website with lots more information.

CatchUp! (juggling)

We juggle with almost everything you can think of: balls, clubs, rings, torches, bouncing balls, diabolo, devilstick and poi. We ride unicycle, do some acrobatics and do some passing. We have about 25 members. Feel free to come to our training so that you can try it out. See also our website.

S.K.V. Hercules (crossfit)

The community for working on your body with functional movements, called crossfit. Our community counts more than 30 members. Trainings are adjusted to every person. We stand for, professionality, motivation and sociability. For more information, feel free to contact us: secretaris[@]herculesut.nl.

A.F.V.D. Foton (photography)

We are the photography association. Every wednesday evening, we organize workshops, lectures and/or fun things related to photography. All our members, about 30, can use the darkroom and the studio when they wish. Most of our activities are in Dutch, but we can change or translate when needed. You can reach us via our website.

D.B.V. de Stretchers (multisports)

We do multisports, but mainly indoorsports. Every training we play 2 to 3 sports. In addition, We participate in the internal competition of Messed Up (floorball association). We have about 45 members, including some international members. Youdon't have to be good in a certain sport, at de Stretchers you can have fun while exercising/working out.

Musilon (close harmony choir)

Since 1987 we sing light music (pop and jazz, mostly English lyrics) arranged in close harmony style. Musilon is an easy-to-join choir: we do not require any previous singing experience or the ability to read musical score. Our choir consists of 35 people and we rehears once a week, mostly with drinks afterwards. Interested? You're more than welcome!

Arabesque (modern dance productiongroup)

We are the modern dance production group and association for students in Enschede. Every Tuesday we have lessons in technique and lessons in choreography, by a professional teacher. Our lessons are mostly in English. We have groups in 3 different levels, ranging from no experience to a lot of (modern) dance experience, everyone can join! We work towards a big annual performance, where we show the choreographies we have made ourselves! Please see our website for more info.

T.C. Ludica (tennis)

The tennis club with 300 + members, 110 training members (winter), a Saturday and Sunday league with about 10 teams, and private facilities (hard/grass courts, pavilion). All tennis levels (approximately 3 to 9) are available for training and competition. It is a very active association with a steadily growing membership. During the week tennis can be played from 10:00 to 23:00 hours, on weekends from 10:00 to 18:00. For more information in English email to info[@]ludica.nl.

S.Y.H.V. The Slapping Studs (ice hockey)

We practice 3 times every week, from October to the end of March at the the local ice rink, IJsbaan Twente. We have 2 coaches and about 45 players, whose level ranges from beginner to advanced. So we compete in two competitions: one for beginners and a pretty high level. Look at our website for more information.

S.D.V. Chassé (jazzdance)

We are an association since 2009/2010 and now consist of 2 groups of about 18 people, one for starters and one for the more experienced ones. An hour of practice consists of warming-up, stretching, fitness and learning a choreography to a song. A few times a year we will show the dances to an audience. Our lessons are given in Dutch, but you can just try to follow the teacher and rest of the group. For more information, go to our website.

Jazz Podium Drienerlo (organising jazz concerts)

We are a group of 5-10 people who organize the concerts, and have a lot more non-member visitors. We have irregular meetings to discuss the artists to be booked. The enthousiastic jazz lovers that form JPD always do their best to program the top of the Dutch ánd the international jazz scene. Have a look at the website for the concert calendar! Break-Even (breakdance)

We have 30 members, including international members, and 20% are girls. We train 3 times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, 2 hours per practice. We use 3 training locations, which you can find at our website. Introduction courses, lessons and e-mails are also given in English. You can learn the basics of breakdance and use your skills to develop your own style. We also do demonstrations, workshops and shows.

Belletrie (library)

Bellettrie is a library run by students, for students. We have a large collection of English literature, Fantasy, Science Fiction, and other categories. We also have a section of Dutch literature translated to English. Bellettrie can be found in the Bastille, room 105b, also called the 'Drakenkelder'.

D.T.T.V. Thibats (table tennis)

We have training groups on the Monday and the Tuesday evening. On Thursday or Friday evenings are the home matches of the regional competition, in which a lot of our members participate. Besides playing table tennis, Thibats organizes a lot of fun tournaments, like the famous Moekotte Tournament, and events, like poker, bowling or ice skating.

V.A.S. Arashi (martial arts)

At Arashi we provide the following martial arts, Judo, Jiu Jitsu, Taekwondo and Pukulan. All sports provide beginners and advanced courses. We have around 120 martial artist in our club and if you are interested our door is always open to come and train with us. The first couple of lessons are free of charge. Besides training, we organize a social activity for all our members about twice a month.

D.B.V. DIOK (badminton)

We have about 140 members with all levels of play. We train in groups of mostly 12 people every Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings as well as late in the afternoon. We have 15 competition teams, from low levels to high levels. Every thursday we have a club evening. v.v. Drienerlo (soccer (indoor and outdoor))

We are the student soccer club in Enschede. v.v.Drienerlo has a varied offer in soccer: indoor and outdoor, high performance level or just for fun, competition and/or training. We organize (international) student tournaments, and also have committees who organize parties and other fun activities! Enjoying the time with our team is almost as important as sweating out on the field. Come and join our training, it’s a lot of fun! For more information visit our website.

Stubiba (bigband)

'Stubiba' stands for STUdents BIg BAnd, but later on, two bands were formed, the Utmost bigband and the Far East Jazz Orchestra. The Utmost bigband is a students-only band mainly focusing on jazz, but playing other styles like blues, latin and funk as well. The Far East Jazz Orchestra consists of students and former students and plays on a high level. Both bands rehearse in the Vrijhof Cultural Center, and play several concerts each year. B.S.V. de Stoottroepen (cue sports)

We are the on-campus cue sports club and have 2 snooker tables, 2 pool tables and a carom billiards table. All our members can play on these tables, practically everyday. We've got bi-weekly snooker and carom training sessions, and we'll organise a tournament every other month. Feel free to come by room 201 in the Bastille on Tuesday evenings (8 - 10 pm) to check us out. A board member will be present to show you around.
 

Campusomroep (broadcasting radio and tv)

We are the student broadcasting association and mainly provide radioshows, but now and then television as well. We have a studio and our own channels, available on campus and online. Activities depend on your own initiatives, when you have a good idea you will easily find support from other members. You don't need any experience, you can learn almost anything while being a member. Our main events are the freshmans introduction week and the Batavierenrace (worlds biggest relay-race). D.S.S.V. Tartaros (survival run)

We combine strength, agility, condition and perseverance all in one sport. Training is outdoors and indoors, varying from running training to real obstacle practice. We train on campus and once a month on other locations. We have a very enthusiastic group, involved in active sports. Whether you are a beginner or already acquainted with the sport, you are very welcome to take a look. D.W.V. Hardboard (surfing/wakeboarding)

We are the surf society of Enschede, where all surfers come together. We provide the possibility to go windsurfing, kitesurfing and wakeboarding. You will find a large group of surf addicts, from beginners to experts. For the ones who want to try windsurfing we have our own instructors and if you want to try kitesurfing we are always in contact with a certified kiteschool to provide us with lessons. We have a get-together every Tuesday night at the San Remo pub/cafe in Enschede, so if you’re interested come have a drink with us or contact us through bestuur[@]dwvhardboard.nl.

Harambee (volleyball)

We are the volleybal club of the UT. Besides volleybal on different levels (from 4th class to 2nd division in the NeVoBo competition and an internal mix-competition) Harambee offers a lot of sociability, because we have found the perfect blend between fun and a high level of sportmanship. With 270 members we are one of the largest team-sport clubs at the campus. All teams train and play in the on-campus Sportcentrum, you can recognize Harambee teams by their striking purple/orange outfit. More information can be found on our website.

Cabezota (handball)

We are the handball club and have appoximately 50 members. There are five teams, 2 for men and 3 for women. The teams plays in national and regional departments. All the teams play matches in the weekend. For women there is a recreationists team which plays matches during the weekdays. It is also possible to only join for the trainings. D.K.V. Euros (canoeing)

We are the student canoeing association in Enschede. At our club, we perform four forms of canoeing. Whitewater paddling is for everyone who is looking for fun, adventure and wild action. Flat-water racing is very competitive, speedy and a great work-out. Canoepolo is a team ballsport which is somewhere in-between waterpolo and basketball. Finally at D.K.V.
